You could say that accounting runs in the family for Anne Pangan, our new Accounting Clerk.
“My mom, my auntie, and my uncles are all accountants, so I was influenced by hearing them speak about their work and how I saw them daily growing up,” explains Anne, the newest member of our Virtual Accounting Team at Finatics.
While she admits that as a child she did consider pursuing architecture, Anne says ultimately accounting was the best fit for her. She graduated from university with her Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology.
“I find accounting so interesting. It’s not just dealing with math itself, it’s more of the analysis part that intrigues me.”
After university, Anne worked in banking for two years and then worked several years in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). She first worked as an accounting assistant for a real estate company and was promoted to accounting executive.
After nearly four years with that company, Anne then moved to another company to work with their Accounting Manager and CFO as an accounting executive.
“We had our first child in December 2019 in Dubai and because of the uncertainties with the pandemic, we decided to move back home to be near our families,” explains Anne. “I applied to work with Finatics in January of 2021 and I’m really excited to join the team. I get to communicate with a lot of people and use my skill set to help small- and medium-sized businesses.”
Michael Haight, President and VCFO of Finatics Accounting Solutions, is enthusiastic about Anne’s international experience in banking, real estate, and education.
“We are excited to have Anne join us as our newest Finatic. Anne not only brings vast working experiences and QBO and Dext software knowledge to our team, she also brings different perspectives and a winning team personality,” says Michael.
“Anne’s been a terrific addition to our team. She is extremely eager to deeply learn about our clients’ businesses and how she can help them improve.”
As an Accounting Clerk, Anne helps Finatics clients across Canada with:
- Processing account receivables (generating invoices, applying the deposits and collecting on past due accounts)
- Processing account payables (applying against POs, coding, processing and generating payments to suppliers)
- Reconciling inventory accounts and sub-systems
- Project tracking for profitability analysis
- Maintaining fixed asset and prepaid expense schedules
- Preparation of monthly government remittances
- Reconciling bank statements, credit cards, and other general ledger accounts
- Assisting with year-end working papers for external accountants
Anne hopes to resume her studies in accounting so that she can take the board exam to become a CPA.
When she’s not busy working, she and her husband Renz are busy with their baby daughter.
“We like to go out to spend time on the beach or near the water,” says Anne. “And spend time with family.”
She also likes to spend time reading, but stresses she’s rather practical in her choice of literary material.
“I don’t like fiction or even non-fiction. I like researching and reading more about accounting-related matters, like Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks, and other accounting software.”
She misses shopping — not just because there’s a pandemic — but because she left the city best known for luxury shopping in the UAE.
“After six years in Dubai, the shopping capital of the world, I really miss that! I definitely want to visit Dubai again someday.”
